About the Society for International Trade & Competition Law
The Society for International Trade and Competition Law (SITC) is a leading academic society at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata. We operate under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Nirmal Kanti Chakrabarti, Vice Chancellor, NUJS, to foster dialogue and discussions in the realms of International Trade and Competition Law. Our Society was established by and works under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Tilottama Raychaudhari. We take pride in creating a space where ideas flow freely and learning never stops.
Competition law is evolving at a remarkable pace. In recent years, we have seen major policy changes, both domestic and international. From the revamping of our merger-control regime to deliberations on the draft Digital Competition Bill, it is a field that requires constant rethinking. At SITC, we make it our business to stay ahead of these trends, exploring both theoretical shifts and their real world consequences.
Throughout the year, SITC hosts a diverse lineup of events—from panel discussions and workshops to lectures, seminars, and the NUJS National Competition Law Moot. Our newsletter, Competition Quarterly, delivers concise updates on landmark judgments and policy shifts. We also host Market Matters, a podcast where we sit down with top practitioners and leading scholars to turn complex topics into accessible conversations.
Collaboration is central to our work. We partner with the Advocacy Division of the Competition Commission of India as well as leading Indian law firms to organise events that leave an impact and generate discourse. Our website also features thought provoking blogs by students from across the country.
By bridging the gap between seasoned professionals, visiting scholars, and our students, we strive to cultivate the next generation of competition law leaders. Together, we are shaping the future of fair markets.
